Warframe: Frame Fighter Update
Digital Extremes, the studio that brought us Warframe for the first time in 2013, has been hard at work trying to impress and improve upon the initial formula for the past five years. What started as a simple instanced concept evolved to include seamless open world questing, with no compromise.
It’s also no secret that the devs love Easter eggs. They had previously introduced a couple of tongue-in-cheek minigames. Happy Zephyr, a clone of Flappy Bird, and Wyrmius, a side scrolling shooter.
This time they really went above and beyond with '’Frame Fighter’’, a nod to the Street Fighter franchise. In it, you can challenge your friends to a one on one, no holds barred, fight to the death. Starring Excalibur, Volt and Mag, this new game mode is loads of fun. Each frame comes with its own unique ability, on top of the regular fighting controls.
Accessing Frame Fighter is simple. You go to Cephalon Simaris and purchase the ‘’Ludoplex'’ device, which is a decoration for your Orbiter. It functions as an arcade machine and has all three minigames. It’s clear that the devs really want us to have a good time.
In comparison to other fighting games, Frame Fighter is far from a full fledged experience. The devs clearly made an effort to produce as much quality as they could given the assets that they had. The hitboxes are a bit off, and the animations aren’t optimized for the format. In fact, the whole experience feels a bit sluggish. But that’s not to say it’s not worth playing.
With the last Warframe update that brought us open world questing, this new minigame update is a nice addendum to an already appealing experience. You won’t sink a lot of hours into it, but you’re sure to get a couple of laughs with friends.
