Remnant: From the Ashes Walkthrough

The complete walkthrough of the game, including tips on how to defeat common enemies and bosses, where to find useful items, weapons, and more
Index

Note. The game features procedurally generated levels, which means that you probably won’t find all the items that we’ve located in the same place. Instead, this item could be somewhere else, or you’ll pick another thing. This mostly concerns intermediate dungeons. Besides, you could meet other bosses in these dungeons. However, the other part of the game, including main bosses, is not procedurally generated.

At the beginning of the game, create a character and then move along the only route, killing enemies with a sword. Click LMB fast to make light blows and hold it for slower, heavy hits. Unlike the Dark Souls series, even though the hero has Stamina, it’s not consumed by melee attacks. Stamina points are only used for running and dodging (Shift key).

New Home

Fight your way to Ward 13 and go inside. After a cutscene, follow along the corridor and turn right into Commander Ford’s room. Listen to her, then go out and go down the stairs on your right. Enter the room on the left and meet Rigs. Continue past Rigs and you will soon find stairs. Go down to B1 (one level below) and find a girl who is looking for her friend. After talking to her, you will have to choose a character class. It defines what weapons you will use. There are three classes that focus on using long, medium and short range guns. Each class has melee weapons.

Make a choice and get your first weapon. By the way, you have to use aim by pressing RMB for firing from the selected weapon. Otherwise, LMB will be for a melee weapon attack. To change a gun, press X. Go upstairs and activate a radiant terminal. Help the girl defeat all monsters. In the end, a burning creature will appear and try to get closer to you. Dodge its attacks.

Pick up every glowing item after the victory. Scrap is the main currency in the game, but other resources may be required to upgrade weapons – iron, for example. Come back and a man will stop you. He will give you the Dragon Heart. It heals you just like the Estus Flask in Dark Souls. The Heart has a limited number of charges which can be restored by reaching checkpoints or after the death of the character. Press Q to use it.

Go to Ford, talk to her and go down to Rigs. He will give you clothes for the selected character class and will also let you upgrade one weapon. Do this and chat with McCabe nearby. She will give you a modification (you could see its description when choosing a class). Install it in any gun you have.

Return to Ford, pick up a key and follow the red marker on the minimap. Insert the key into a terminal and activate it. Watch a vid. The tutorial is completed, and now you can join someone else's game or let other players connect to your session.

Remnant: From the Ashes Walkthrough-1

From the Ashes

Go to a large glowing crystal and activate it. Proceed to the Founder’s hideout. Go upstairs, take a potion, a note from Nadine, Ellen Ford’s daughter, and a Ward 13 key card. Read another note hanging on the board to the right of a doorway.

Remnant: From the Ashes Walkthrough-2

Go outside and move through the city. Enter the building on the right, climb to the third floor and jump through the window to get into the neighboring building. There, Stone Pillar ring lays near a corpse. A little further on the right hand is a cafe. Go through it to the back yard and you will see a chest on the left. Open it to get several items at once.

Proceed further and kill enemies on your way. There will be three types of foes. Common monsters are not a threat. They can throw knives or try to get close and attack you in melee. You can kill them with melee weapons to save ammo. Demons with a bow constantly move from place to place, while trying to keep a distance from you. Lastly, huge guys with clubs attack close targets. If a big guy runs to you, stand still and try to dodge in the right moment. If the big guy swings his club, run away or simply roll, because he will reach you at any distance.

So, when you go to the left of the roots that blocked the path, clean the next street and enter the first building on the left. Go upstairs and run to the very end of the second floor to find a chest.

Press M to open the map. The path to the nearest checkpoint is blocked by a fence. There, you can go left. Looking at the map, go to the upper right corner to find a sewer hatch – this is a descent into a dungeon. Go there and unlock the Hidden Sanctuary checkpoint.

Remnant: From the Ashes Walkthrough-3

You can go back to Ward 13 to buy new upgrades and consumables. Note that small crystals such as this are not saved in the travel points list. On the other hand, you can return to it if you don’t use another crystal. Any negative effects can be removed by special consumables bought from Reggie. When resting at a checkpoint, you restore ammunition and Dragon Heart charges, but all common enemies respawn. We recommend buying bandages from Reggie because waiting for the bleeding to pass by itself is very dangerous. Also, don’t sell any items that remove negative effects. Sooner or later you will need them.

Now, follow through the sewer tunnels from the Hidden Sanctuary crystal, killing many enemies. Here we managed to find a Tome of Knowledge Trait and a new ring Heartseeker. Be sure to destroy the red totems and kill large goblins from afar. A negative Rotting effect will be applied if they explode near you. Special opponents are very dangerous. For example, if you are attacked by an enemy with two swords, you need to let him get close and attack you. Roll back and shoot. Otherwise, he will repel all bullets.

There will be a big guy with a machine gun at the end of the level. He needs to reload his weapon – use this moment to counterattack. Get out and activate the Infected Well crystal.

Shroud boss fight

Remnant: From the Ashes Walkthrough-4

When you move on, get ready to face the first boss – Shroud. You might have met it before as a common enemy. And if Shroud killed you in the tunnels before, it won’t disturb you again.

Hint. Don’t forget to use the weapon modifier you installed. There is a circle pointing to the modifier at the bottom right of the screen. Use F to activate it.

In a battle with this enemy, other root-like creatures will distract you. Kill them only if they bother you. In any other case, you should focus on the Shroud. Besides the usual archery, the Shroud will use a very dangerous attack. If you hear the sound of a rattle or see the Shroud raise its bow, then be prepared to escape. Run away and do not stand still, try to dodge. You might get hit by very powerful projectiles if you don’t move. All the other monsters will die as soon as you kill the Shroud. You will receive dark tree as a reward – a special item used to create a powerful modifier. Get to the surface of the city.

Go ahead and activate a checkpoint that you couldn’t reach before because of the roots. This is the Mud Tooth’s Hideout. All checkpoints that have a word "hideout" in the name can be used for fast travel at any time, while small crystals are limited (unless another was activated).

After visiting Ward 13 and upgrading the character (create a modifier at McCabe), return to the Mud Tooth’s Hideout. Go to the old man on a helicopter, talk and get acquainted with the goods. Among other things, there are tonics that increase stamina and health for 1 hour. Moreover, death does not cancel this effect.

Go to the left of the crystal, along a path that has not been used before. At the intersection, you can turn right, but you must go left to complete the quest. At the very end of the path, enter the building and go to a subway. Here you need to find the Root Mother.

Remnant: From the Ashes Walkthrough-5

Go ahead and be sure to check out a niche on the left. There is a room with consumables and a quest item – a strange coin. If you give this coin to Ace from the base (next to Reggie), you will receive a reward – Magnum Revolver +2.

Keep moving, while killing root-like monsters. If a screaming creature appears, then try to focus on her first. This monster revives common enemies. Go through the subway until you find the second crystal. Once you’ve saved, follow on and go to the other side of a railroad. A Tome of Knowledge is hidden in the passage on the left. A little further on the same side is a chest. Fight your way to the exit and leave this subway level. Come to the surface and activate another large crystal, The Church.

Enter the Church and speak with the Root Mother. Agree to protect her. Kill all enemies for the next 2 minutes. When time runs out, the Mother will finish off the remaining opponents. Talk to her and find out where to go next. You will also receive a new trait – Mother's Blessing, which reduces damage in ranged combat. Go through the gap in the wall and proceed to a new location. Activate the large Westcourt crystal. Return to Ward 13 and chat with the Root Mother. She will be in the same place as Ace and Reggie. You can buy Dragon Heart upgrades from the Mother, increasing the number of charges per 1000 units of scrap, simulacrum and lumenite crystals.

Follow the stairs that went down to level B1. Go even lower to B2, where Ward 13 is located. Remember the key card that was found in the Founder’s Hideout? There will be a closed door with a terminal. Insert the card into this terminal to get into the long corridor. On the right is the reception desk with a Tome of Knowledge on it. Pick it up to instantly get a trait point. You will find the corresponding tab on the character’s screen (C key).

Follow the corridor and turn into the first room on the left. There will be a computer with much more information. Read all reports, magazines, and letters to learn about parallel worlds and the origin of root-like creatures. In the second room on the left on the table is a media player. Use it to get a new trait Elder Knowledge. Each trait point invested in it will increase the experience multiplier. Finally, in the third room on the left is a fuse. This is a quest item. There is even a special tab in the inventory for such things.

Go to a corridor on the right and check side rooms. In the second room on the right hand, there is another computer with a journal. Inspect other rooms and computers, go to the end of the corridor and hit the locked door. Here you need a regular key. By the way, one of the rooms is closed, but there is a window without a bar nearby. Make your way there to find a bandage and an ammunition box (instantly restores ammo for all weapons).

Remnant: From the Ashes Walkthrough-6

Go down the stairs to level B3 and insert the fuse into a power box on the wall on the left. Go to the door and apply the key card to the terminal on the right. Follow the corridor and search the side rooms to collect consumables. In the far room, there is a locked computer. To get access to it, you need some kind of item. Go to the next doorway and find a Tome of Knowledge that gives 1 trait point.

From the Ashes (The Labyrinth Keeper)

Return to the Westcourt crystal, at the intersection, go left and then right. On the left hand, there will be a turn leading to the Sewer. On the way there you will encounter new enemies. Aim at shooters’ heads to inflict maximum damage. These enemies shoot 3 times and then reload their guns. Shamans summon small goblins, so try to kill them first.

Remnant: From the Ashes Walkthrough-7

Before turning left, to a descent point, inspect a building on the right. In the back room of the first floor, there is a new item – a mask. If you don’t turn left, but go further along the road, you will see a gate with the inscription CHECKPOINT. Follow it and find a large crystal The Settlement.

There are locked gates here. Go out on the other side, kill enemies, climb a tower and jump over the fence. Follow the left until you reach a transition point. If you open the map, it is located at the bottom right. Go there, activate a small crystal The Choking Hollow. This is the right place. A boss is ahead.

The Ent boss fight

It is best that you find a group to fight this boss since the Ent's weak spot is on its back. Of course, you can shoot at any part of the body, but a distraction tactic will be more effective. If you decided to go alone, be sure to equip an Oilskin Tonic potion that negates the Infected status effect.

The Ent will constantly summon exploding goblins. Closer to the midbattle, common enemies will begin to appear beside them. When The Ent leans over and shoots explosive bombs from behind, its vulnerable spot opens. So shoot it, then roll to the side, and repeat. Negate the debuff as soon as needed.

Common enemies will drop ammo when killed. When The Ent has 25% of HP, he will begin to crawl. Everything is simple here: let him get to you, then roll back and attack. The Ent has long arms, so be careful. By defeating him, you will unlock a new talent Quick Hands (increases the reload speed) and get a spore gland to create powerful weapons. Go to the exit point.

Remnant: From the Ashes Walkthrough-8

Once in another part of the city, activate a small crystal ahead (The Keeper’s Tower). Go forward and a tower will appear. Enter it and talk to the Keeper. He will send you to a labyrinth. You will also receive a new trait Keeper’s Blessing which increases resistance to elements.

Go ahead and activate a large crystal Labyrinth.

The Eastern Wind

Three paths lead from the crystal in the labyrinth. If you go left and then right, you can find locked portals. To activate them, you need a key. Go ahead and move into the world of Nui, where an immortal king Ezlan rules. He is the person you need to find. Activate the large crystal The Eastern Wind. You will also discover a new trait – World Walker, which reduces stamina consumption.

This world is filled with completely different enemies. Try to aim for their heads to deal maximum damage. Dodge flying spears and especially shimmering boomerangs of shamans that will inflict you with radiation. After 1-2 throws, spearmen will pick up daggers and rush towards you. Dodge their attacks and use melee weapons to save ammo.

Instead of usual boxes, there are stone containers. Open them by searching every house in the first settlement. Here we found our first amulet. On the left is the entrance to a dungeon where you can activate a small crystal. If you go through this dungeon, there will be large gates at the end. You need to activate them and hold your position until they open. Some good weapon is hidden behind them.

Fight your way through a desert settlement, killing enemies, until you discover the next large crystal, The Monolith. Go to the tower on the left, where rays point. There is a mechanism in front of it, and something needs to be inserted into it. We’ll come back here later.

Remnant: From the Ashes Walkthrough-9

Move further through the location, through the other part of the settlement, until you find a descent into a new dungeon. Go there and activate a small crystal The Shining Temple. Inside it, there will be the same enemies as in The Halls of the Sun, however here you can find a glowing rod (quest item). But it does not fit the device in front of the Elzar Tower. If you go deeper into the shining temple, you can find a transition point to a new room with a small crystal. Here you will fight with Shatter and Shade.

Shatter and Shade boss fight

This is a duo boss fight. One of them uses melee weapons, and the other uses ranged weapons. Try to kill the melee boss first, and position yourself so his partner, while shooting at you, hits his ally. When the enemies are under the dome, avoid projectiles and kill common monsters. Only after all common enemies are killed, shoot at the energy hemisphere to destroy it. Continue the battle until victory. In the end, you will get a black tear used to create a powerful Black Tear Veil modifier. It allows you to create an energy field within a radius of 5 meters. A cure for radiation will be also very useful to you in this battle. The negative effect is applied if the radiation scale is filled. It reduces stamina by 50%.

Remnant: From the Ashes Walkthrough-10

Go outside and activate a large The Scouring Wastes crystal. Move forward, killing enemies among the ruins of buildings. Do not turn left. This path leads to the lower right corner of the map, where there is a descent into a dungeon. Enter it and activate a small crystal The Lodge. Go through this dungeon, destroying enemies. Flying skulls shoot black matter at you. Just dodge attacks. Kill glowing green skulls first or let them near you, and then roll to the side. Destroy the shamans as soon as they appear, preventing them from summoning skulls and scattering radiation. Potions against radiation will come in handy. Get to the exit and go into the next room. Activate The Stalker’s Den small crystal.

Chat with a character sitting by the fire, and you will be able to buy a special item that increases critical damage for 1 hour. If dogs hear you or you attack them yourself, you will have to kill this merchant. In a battle, an alpha dog Maul will summon common hounds. Kill them, but most importantly — beware of the Maul, who can inflict serious damage in one throw. The main thing is to dodge its attacks. Use various modifiers. In the end, you will receive a reward – a beagle collar used to create a powerful modifier. The Maul will also drop a quest item – the rod of control.

Go outside, go forward, killing enemies, and soon you’ll find a merchant with a tamed hound. Do not rush to him, but instead follow to the right to find a large crystal Wasteland Merchant. Return to the merchant and open a gate. A little further there is a descent into another dungeon. Enter it and activate another small crystal.

Go inside, kill several enemies and pick up a bright red item – another glowing rod (quest item). Move to the end of the hideout, killing the enemies, and find another small crystal, Herald’s Hideout. Nearby there are 3 doors and 3 devices. The glowing rods are needed for each device. Now we have two of them. Behind these doors are common resources and 3 pieces of Akari Set +6. This set increases melee damage and critical strike chance.

Go outside and walk past the merchant with the dog. After opening the gate, go right and you will soon discover another dungeon. Go inside and activate The Loom of Black Sun small crystal. Make your way through the dungeon, killing enemies. This one will be similar to the previous two. After the dungeon, you will fight Claviger.

Claviger boss fight

Remnant: From the Ashes Walkthrough-11

During the battle, Claviger will use an energy shield. Shoot towers to the left and to the right of it to get rid of the shield and inflict damage to the boss. Immediately after the shield falls, it will be absolutely motionless for several seconds. Dodge flying balls, kill all emerging monsters. The boss will rotate the platform to reactivate the energy shield.

After the victory, you will receive a new trait – Recovery and a howling key. Get out of here, go to the tower and insert this key into the device. Go inside and talk with the Undying King on all topics. After this, decide what to do. We’ve agreed with the King. Enter the portal to go after the beast’s heart.

The Swamp Beast

So, you need to kill the Swamp Beast. Activate a large The Fetid Glade crystal. Kill monsters in a swamp and get to a transition point to The Shack. Defeat the boss. You will need to constantly evade powerful hammer attacks. At the end of the battle, the Unclean will rotate for a long time, brandishing an axe, and you will have to keep your distance. Also, do not forget to kill common enemies. The Unclean can also kill them with the hammer. After the victory, you will receive the Unclean Heart, which is used for crafting weapons, and a trait – Glutton.

Remnant: From the Ashes Walkthrough-12

Go to the exit and activate a large The Mist Fen crystal. Proceed further, killing enemies, until you find a large crystal The Elf Queen. Activate it and talk with Iskal – a weird-looking creature resembling a butterfly. She will ask you to bring her the beast’s heart – the one that interests the Undying King. Agree or refuse. You can also trade with Iskal. Among other things, she has a potion that removes corrosion. It will come in handy for you!

Remnant: From the Ashes Walkthrough-13

Go further and go into a dungeon, where you can activate a small crystal. New enemies will appear here. Some will shoot you with a shotgun, others will scream loudly, temporarily stunning the character. Follow the depths of the cave and go into the next room, where you can activate a small crysta. Go forward and fight a boss.

Canker boss fight

Remnant: From the Ashes Walkthrough-14

In a battle with this boss, try to stay away from it. When it runs, scattering growths, go to the side (out of its way). Destroy common monsters that hatch from growths. Also, evade big waves. When you kill the boss, the remaining enemies will also die. For this victory, you will receive a slime vessel used for crafting a powerful modifier, as well as a new trait – Catalyst.

Go further, killing enemies, and enter the next dungeon, where you will activate a large crystal The Grotto. A battle with the Guard awaits you ahead.

Ixillis XV and Ixillis XVI boss fight

Remnant: From the Ashes Walkthrough-15

At first, there will be only one enemy, but the same one will join the battle later. Dodge long spear attacks and shoot clouds flying in your direction. On a bridge where the fight takes place, there are several indestructible parts of the fence. Try not to stand at the edge of the bridge, otherwise one of the bosses will throw you off. After the victory, you will receive the Guardian’s Heart and a new trait – Executioner, which increases critical hit chance. Also, don’t forget to check out the end of the bridge to open loot chests on the left and right.

Decide who you want to give the Guardian's Heart to. We chose Iskal, The Elf Queen. If you give her a heart, she will give you a reward – a set of killer’s armor, 900 pieces of scrap and a crossbow. Go to the Undying Throne to meet the Undying King.

The Undying King boss fight

If you refuse to give him the Heart, you will have to kill him. In the battle with him, dodge the sickles, kill common monsters and shoot crystals floating in the air. After the victory, you will receive The Undying Heart, a new trait Kingslayer and the Labyrinth Key.

Return to the labyrinth. There are stone gates on the left and right sides that can be activated with the Undying King’s key. One gate will lead you back to the Swamps, and other – to new lands. You will find yourself in the jungle.

The Jungle

Go to a large The Verdant Strand crystal and activate it. In the middle of the location, there will be another large crystal – Ruins. You need to get to the lower right corner of the map to get in the Shrine of The Immortals dungeon. In fact, it will be just another part of the jungle. Walk forward and find yourself in a closed area under rebels’ attack. Kill all enemies in the location. Among them will be several powerful opponents. After the victory, you can talk to the immortals and find out that Ford is held captive by the queen.

Exit through another passage and activate a large Scalding Glade crystal. Fight your way through the jungle until you discover a transition to another dungeon. Go there and activate a small crystal. Proceed between tree houses and kill enemies. Use rolls to dodge explosive bullets fired by gnomes. Enter a building and activate another small crystal.

Scald and Sear boss fights

Remnant: From the Ashes Walkthrough-16

You will face a crossbowman and his flying dragon. We recommend killing Scar first, who will soar next to the main character. Dodge his fireballs. It’s difficult to get close to Sear, as the enemy will constantly run away from you and try to shoot from afar. If possible, use a long-range weapon. If you chose a closed-ranged class, you will have to run after the enemy. He will also summon large lizards. Kill them as soon as possible. After the victory, you’ll get Zephyr's Conduit – an item used to create a powerful modifier.

Go to the exit and get to the large crystal Ruins, that you’ve activated earlier – now you can open the door. Go back through the door and go up the map, inside the cave with a new passage. By doing that, you will get to a small crystal. Move forward and see how a creature steals a purple weapon. Go deeper into the cave until you meet the Stormcaller. Avoid flying electric spears. Whenever the Stormcaller teleports, he will throw a spear. By defeating him, you will receive a new trait Handling and a weapon Discthrower +9. Handling improves accuracy and reduces recoil.

Besides the living dead, there are dangerous opponents with a battery on their backs in this cave. After firing at the battery, move away from the enemy. Otherwise, you will be hurt by an explosion. Activate a small crystal and pick up the Stone of Agility ring.

Return to the large crystal Scalding Glade and find a closed door in the center of the location on the map. There is a passage to the left. Go through this corridor to explore the second half of the level. This path will lead you to a cave, where you activate a small crystal.

While killing enemies, get to the next room, where you need to activate another small crystal Noble’s Rest. Go through the fog to meet a new boss.

Onslaught boss fight

This enemy likes to teleport, and you need to stay on guard. As soon as the boss moves closer to you, he charges a powerful electric attack with a wide area of effect. You need to quickly run away from the boss and attack him when it’s safe. Do not forget about common opponents, including winged dragons. Try to kill them as soon as they appear. In the second half of the battle, Onslaught will try to teleport to you and strike the character with a long spear. You will need to dodge several times. By defeating the enemy, you will receive a Blink Spear Shard used to create a powerful modifier.

Remnant: From the Ashes Walkthrough-17
Secret. Go to the exit, and then activate a large crystal Pan Flautist. Ahead will be a flute player and 5 bells. Listen carefully to the melody that he constantly plays. You have to shoot the bells so that their sounds match the flutist's melody. Number the bells from left to right. Now shoot them in the following order: 3 / 4 / 5 / 4 (short pause) / 2 / 1. You will open a secret passage with the Heart of the Wolf ring.

There is a door which can be opened from this side. Do it, but then turn around and go right. Proceed forward, killing enemies, and go through a large gate. Activate a small crystal The Ravager’s Haunt and go through the gray haze to a boss.

Remnant: From the Ashes Walkthrough-18

The Ravager boss fight

Remnant: From the Ashes Walkthrough-19

To start the battle, you must shoot The Ravager, who is hiding in a dark cave on the left. During the fight, you have to dodge at the right moment. From time to time, the enemy will leave the arena to return with archers. Kill them, then continue to attack The Ravager itself. After the victory, you will receive a new trait Arcane Strike and a Tentacle Pod used to craft powerful weapons.

Remnant: From the Ashes Walkthrough-20

Go to the exit and activate a large crystal Founder's Prison. Go down, shoot a lock and talk with the founder Ford. He will give you a key to the computer.

The Rusty Place

Return to Ward 13. Go to the stairs that went down to level B1. Descend further down to B2, where Ward 13 is located. You can explore its remote corners to collect useful bonuses and find out the origin of root-like creatures. Remember the key card found in the Founder’s hideout? There will be a closed door with a terminal. Apply the card to this terminal to get into the long corridor. On the right is the reception desk, and there is a Tome of Knowledge. Pick it up to instantly get a trait point. You will find the corresponding tab on the character screen (C key).

Go further through the corridor and turn to the first room on the left. There will be a computer with much more information. Read all reports, journals, and letters to learn about alternate worlds and the origin of root-like creatures. In the second room on the left will be a recorder on the table.

Remnant: From the Ashes Walkthrough-21

Go down the stairs to level B3 and insert the fuse into a power box on the wall on the left. Go to the door and apply the key card to the terminal on the right. Follow the corridor and search the side rooms to collect consumables. In the far room, there is a locked computer. To get access to it, you need some kind of item. Go to the next doorway and find a Tome of Knowledge that gives 1 trait point. Go back to the computer and insert the Founder’s key into the opening on the right. Activate a mirror and go through it.

Remnant: From the Ashes Walkthrough-22

Follow the only route. Activate a small crystal, proceed further and fight Dreamer.

The final boss fight

The battle will be split into two stages. In the first half, it is very easy to dodge all Dreamer’s attacks by jumping to the side. When you defeat him, a huge Guard will appear. It’s very hard to damage it. You will need a fully upgraded powerful weapon. Otherwise, you won’t even notice if its health points are decreasing. When the boss sends you into the darkness, kill common enemies and wait for the portal to appear. Run in its direction to return to the Dreamer’s arena. By defeating him, you will receive a new trait Mind’s Eye and an Orb of Undoing, which allows you to reset trait points.

Important tip. The longer you stay in the dark hall and the more enemies you kill, the higher will be Dreamer's damage multiplier when you return to the battle arena. Just shoot him a couple of times and get back to the dark place and continue accumulating the damage bonus.
