The Dark Pictures Anthology: Man of Medan
The Dark Pictures Anthology: Man of Medan Full Walkthrough — The Duke
The first full-fledged chapter of Man of Medan unfolds seven decades after the events of the prologue. This episode is an introductory chapter which familiarizes you with the main characters of this horror adventure and the dialogue system.
Our hero in this scene is Brad. He helps his brother Alex prepare The Duke of Milan for the sea voyage. The essence of this voyage will become clear later, but for now, brothers should discuss their preparations for departure. This is where the local dialogue mechanics are introduced.
The character controlled by the player always has two options to choose from (and the option to say nothing which should not be used in most cases). Almost every statement causes a positive or negative reaction of your interlocutor – in these guides, we’ll indicate which one.
By choosing the ‘’correct’’ replicas, you improve your relations with characters (and vice versa) and/or open new character traits for the protagonist. This element does not impact the gameplay of Man of Medan, but it can influence the plot and certain achievements.
As the upcoming trip is about diving, Alex will wonder why Brad did not take a single swimming lesson. The option ‘’Insecure’’ will not convince Alex, while ‘’Resentful’’ will show that the hero had more important things to do (in particular, work).
The next topic for discussion is that the protagonist does not like that his brother casually handles expensive equipment. Alex’ girlfriend Julia and her brother Conrad are ‘’super f***ing loaded’’ and do not pay attention to such trifles. According to Alex, that’s what Brad should do.
When Alex expresses disappointment with his decision to take his brother with him, you could choose between options ‘’Accusatory’’ and ‘’Uneasy’’. The first option allows the hero to show an envious character trait and unlock the trophy Brother Thing, You Know, while the second option will defuse the situation.
Alex will explain his irritability with the challenging studies in the medical school and the fact that he has not seen Julia for a long time (two weeks). Be ‘’Empathetic’’ to get a bonus to your relationship with your brother or ‘’Cynical’’ to spoil it a bit.
While Brad hides beer into the cabinet as Conrad approaches, Alex expresses a desire to consult on an important issue with his brother. You can advise him to go with his gut (‘’Sentimental’’) or think carefully about the issue (‘’Cautious’’).
It becomes clear what Alex is talking about when a Bearing is opened once you have chosen a dialogue option. It is a set of in-game events and situations related to a single topic. In this case, it’s about Alex’ desire to make a proposal to Julia.
At this moment, Julia and Conrad board The Duke of Milan. The girl goes to her boyfriend while her brother heads towards beer supplies which he will offer to share with Brad. If you agree (‘’Relaxed’’), you’ll improve your relations with the character, if you refuse (‘’Apprehensive’’), your relationship will worsen a bit.
The side effect of the decision is Brad’s condition in the next scene. Having sipped a beer, the hero will doom himself to seasickness with all that comes with it. It’s up to you whether the character’s suffering is worth a small bonus to the relationship with Conrad.
Finally, Conrad will ask whether Brad dived before. If you lie (‘’Self Assured’’), the hero will show his ‘’false’’ character trait. In case you choose ‘’Gloomy’’, you’ll witness the humorous talent of your interlocutor.
After this, The Duke of Milan will be boarded by the captain – Fliss, who arrived in her SUV just in time for departure. You will not be able to learn anything about the sailor in this chapter as she will immediately warn everyone that it’s time to sail off the shore.
