Assassin's Creed: Origins
Assassin’s Creed: Origins in an open-world, third-person, action-adventure game developed by Ubisoft Montreal. It was published by Ubisoft for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on October 27th, 2017.
Assassin’s Creed: Origins is a tenth major game in the franchise and one of the most notable games of 2017. The game is set in Hellenistic Egypt of 40s BCE. The country is torn apart by bloody rivalry between Cleopatra and her brother. Both try to attract Romans as allies while Romans use Ptolemies’ feud to establish permanent control over Egypt.
The story is told through the eyes of Bayek and Aya, a family couple from Siwa region. Both capable warriors, they work as agents of Cleopatra, providing intelligence and assassinating key people in the enemy ranks. They strive to take down the Order, a sinister secret society with an ambition for global domination. The real history here is just a background while the main story arc is entirely fictional.
The game’s world is vast and diverse. Even on a horse, it takes more than 30 mins to reach the opposite side of the map. There are plains and mountains, forests and swamps, lakes and rivers, caves and tombs, military camps and cities. And, of course, a lot of deserts.
Given the fact that it is the Ancient World, cities are relatively large and complex with plenty of high buildings to climb. Greek cities, like Alexandria, are especially impressive with straight paved streets, magnificent buildings and many beautiful statues. They are so eye-catching that it is a pleasure just to aimlessly walk there, doing nothing.
The game mechanics is close to previous games. Enemies usually outnumber and (at first) exceed the level of the player, so Assassin’s Creed: Origins favors stealth approach with hidden blade as a primary weapon. For an open battle, characters use swords, blades, spears, bows, firebombs, clubs, and shields. Bayek is a main character and Aya is available for playing only occasionally, mostly in sea missions.
Wild animals provide resources for crafting, but they are also dangerous. Lions, crocodiles and hippos may tear Bayek in pieces in a matter of seconds. Bayek uses a pet hawk, who gives an aerial view of surroundings, for spotting animals and for other reconnaissance tasks.
Finishing the main quest of Assassin’s Creed: Origins takes about 30-35 hours. The complete walkthrough, with all the side quests and activities done, may require up to 50-70 hours.
