Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Full Walkthrough: The Road to Symposium
Having dealt with Herodotus’ prehistoric business, the main character of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey goes to Athens to warn Perikles about the threat from Kosmos Cult and to learn about the location of his long-lost mother.
Welcome to Athens
This short storyline mission begins on the southeast shore of Attica, where Herodotus is already waiting for the protagonist. The heroes will move to the city separately and will arrange a meeting at the Pnyx hill, where popular assemblies were held in ancient Greece.
Having called Phobos, ride towards the city – do not forget that you can run the horse on an ‘’autopilot’’. Athens is one of the biggest settlements in the whole game, so we advise you to first climb the central synchronization point that is located on the horse’s crest of the helmet of the huge gilded statue of Athena.
The hill that you are searching for is located in the south-west of the city. The demonstration attracted many people. Two men stand above the crowd – Perikles, the father of democracy, and his main political antagonist Cleon. The first one proposes to wait out the danger, while the second one speaks in favor of decisive action against the Spartan threat.
At the end of the meeting, Herodotus will bring Alexios/Kassandra to Perikles. The leader of Athens is interested in misthios’ opinion regarding the current situation in the city, but your answer will not impact further developments of the storyline so do not spend too much time thinking about what you say.
As we know, heroes came to Athens to get some information. It could be obtained at a symposium, where foreigners are usually not allowed. Perikles is ready to make an exception for the hero if he completes three tasks of state importance.
We will deal with them in the next missions, and now you’ll get about 5000 experience points for the completion of the current quest.
A Venomous Encounter
The first task is to find Perikles’ companion Metiochos. He did not come to today’s meeting which is very unusual for him. Once you arrive at the necessary estate, climb on the roof and then jump off from it to the courtyard. How ordinary visitors get there remains a mystery.
Do not hurry to get inside the building – Metiochos is locked in a room with several poisonous snakes. They attack all together, so any mistake in this case is punished by sudden death. Use your bow to shoot the vipers from a safe distance and release the prisoner.
Metiochos will tell you about the attackers. Apparently, they were poor people from the flooded area of the city. Go to the specified building and first of all kill (once again, from afar) three vipers that are located in front of the door of an almost ruined house. Look at vipers’ corpses – Alexios/Kassandra will conclude that these snakes were the relatives of those who nearly killed Metiochos.
Next, climb to the second floor of the building to find a letter from the one who ‘’sponsored’’ the attack on Metiochos. Descend back and go around the house counterclockwise. A corpse will be hidden behind a tree that is located next to the building – this is a victim of a snakebite.
Having obtained all three clues, you will face the attackers themselves. They will not admit their guilt and will be proud of their deeds, but they won’t want to die for the snake seller who sponsored the attack. Having knocked the information out of the poor guys, you can kill or spare them.
Go out of the city walls – on the outskirts of Athens, a snake seller set up a small camp. You can identify him by the white tents and a huge number of vipers in the nearby. If possible, clear the upcoming battlefield from the reptiles so that they cannot attack you from the back in the midst of the fight. Also, try to attack the poisoner first.
At this stage, he is not an easy opponent – his poisonous sword can ‘’eat’’ plenty of your health so be sure to buy the skill Second Wind. We advise you to parry the enemy’s attacks only if you are sure of your timing, or you will lose your health in a failed parrying attempt.
However, you do not need to get far from the villain. The poisoner also knows how to throw bombs – when you notice a red circle on the ground, jump (you need to press the dodge button) and shoot from the bow. For long-range attacks, the enemy uses poisonous shells.
Having killed and looted the poisoner (do not forget to search his pockets and tents), get back to Metiochos for the reward – a couple hundred drachmas and several thousand experience points.
Escape from Athens
Pericles’ second request is to get the famous sculptor Phidias out of Athens. He is accused of public funds embezzlement. The sculptor is held in custody in his workshop that is located in the south-east of the city. The main entrance is guarded by a warrior, but if you wish, you can enter the building from the other side.
If you decide to go through the guard, be prepared to lie, bribe or kill. You can tell the guard that you were sent by Pericles, but this won’t have any effect. You will either have to use extreme and cruel measures or scoop out 500 drachmas, the cost of the passage.
The alternative option is to pretend being Phidias’ friend or lover. The guard won’t let the friend inside, while the lover will get the green light. If you do not want to waste your time on talks or your money on a bribe, you can use your bow to shoot the guard from afar.
Once inside, go up to the second floor and talk to Phidias. It looks like the court is not his only problem – the sculptor’s name was at the head of the list of goals of one of the sectarians in Kosmos Cult’s lair. Thus, Perikles wants to save his friend from death rather than from justice.
The heroes will arrange a meeting at the docks in the evening – Phidias has a friend ready to help on the nearby island – and now Alexios/Kassandra must deal with the guards who came to the workshop. Or with just one guard, if you killed the warrior who stood at the door.
Jump from the balcony to the piles under the ceiling and eliminate the warrior that is located closer to the exit. If you have done everything quietly, the second soldier will not notice the loss of a comrade and will let the hero get out into the street without attracting attention. Wait for the evening to come (hold down the button that is responsible for calling a map) and go to the meeting with Phidias.
Having talked with the sculptor, board Adrestia and sail towards Seriphos island – you will not have to search for it as it will be highlighted on the map. Along the way, you may encounter pirate ships (dark gray sails). Avoid them If you do not want to risk a potential return to the control point.
In the harbor of Seriphos, Phidias will be met by his friend who will reveal the identity of the next cultist – the 17th-level Brison. At this point, Alexios/Kassandra will part ways with the sculptor and complete the quest, receiving about 7000 experience points.
The remaining request of Perikles is to influence the outcome of the ostracism that is taking place in the city (this is a process of expelling one of the polis’ citizens – author’s note). Head towards the agora (i.e. the court building) and talk to the curly-headed man in the green tunic – this is Pericles’ man.
You will be asked to put a bag with fake votes in place of those who are guarded in the nearby meeting house in order to influence the voting results. Athens’ ruler wants his friend, the sophist Anaxagoras, to leave the city for ten years. You do not need to bother with Perikles’ motives for the move.
Call Ikaros once you approach the necessary building to mark your goals – two boxes with the votes and all enemies in the nearby. Use grass, whistles and various attacks to deal with the guards in the courtyard and them climb the tower from the north-east side.
Quietly descend to the second floor to the first of the two boxes. Having done your dirty work, go back to the tower and jump on the head of the guard between the two buildings. Then, deal with the guard that watches the courtyard. Replace the second bag with the votes – there’ll be no one on your way – and return to agora.
Talk to Perikles’ man and observe the results of your actions. If you were not quiet when substituting the votes, the herald will announce that someone tried to fake the results. However, this will not affect further developments, and Anaxagoras will be expelled from the city.
Sokrates will also come to look at the exile of his friend. Being a philosopher, this well-fed middle-aged man will ask plenty of moral and ethical questions of all kinds. Answer as you wish – this dialogue will have no impact on further developments of the storyline. Having completed the last request of Perikles, you will get about 6000 experience points.
Having completed all three requests of the ruler of Athens, you automatically begin this mission. Head to Perikles’ house where Alexios/Kassandra will meet Phoibe. She escaped from Kephallonia and now works for Aspasia, the loved one of the house’s master.
If you wish, you can refuse to change your military outfit to the civilian one, but this will have no effect as you won’t be allowed to bring weapons inside the house. You will not have to kill anyone in this mission so don’t worry.
Once on the symposium, talk to Herodotus – he will tell you what is happening around and will present the main characters of the evening: playwrights Sophokles, Euripides, Aristophanes, sophist Protagoras, comedian Hermippus, Sokrates and Thrasymachus who are arguing about the same things.
As soon as the heroes come to philosophers, drunken Alkibiades will rush in and take a boy and a girl with him to an alcoholic orgy. When Herodotus leaves Alexios/Kassandra, it will be high time to start getting information. Let’s start with Alkibiades.
This accompanying task is called Oil and Love. Knock on Alkibiades’ door (it is located in the corridor to the south of the central hall) – he needs oil. Go to the kitchen – the doorway is next to the playwrights – grab the jug and return to the ‘’customer’’.
Before he tells you anything useful, Alkibiades will invite Alexios/Kassandra to join his orgy. You can decline the invitation – the young protégé of Perikles will provide you information anyway: you must find a woman in Corinth who has information about all who come and leave the city.
The second clue is connected with the arguing playwrights and is singled out in a separate additional task called Drink Up. Look for Sophokles in the above-mentioned kitchen – he quarreled with his pupil Euripides and now wants to get him drunk so that he can disappear unnoticed.
Talk to the servant and select the appropriate wine to get the playwright drunk. According to Sophokles, the sweet wine leads to fascinatingly unbearable consequences. Having received the jug, talk to Euripides and Aristophanes – first, they will behave arrogantly, but they will soon relax under the influence of alcohol.
Drink with Euripides until he starts embarrassing you and will talk about the main character’s mother. Allegedly, broken-hearted Spartan women went to pray - Alexios/Kassandra does not trust the gods’ servants after what happened in his homeland, so Euripides advises him to visit Hippokrates.
Having made the playwright drunk and having obtained the necessary information from him, return to Sophokles and tell him how everything went to complete this side task. Together with Oil and Love, this task will bring you about 5500 experience points.
Having dealt with the two side tasks, enter a conversation with Sokrates and Thrasymachus. The heroes argue about nothing – you can choose any dialogue options – until Aspasia comes. She will tell the main character about a pirate captain named Xenia who may know something about the mother of Alexios/Kassandra.
At the end of the conversation, Aspasia will ask the protagonist to persuade Perikles to descend to the guests – he does not like noisy parties and prefers solitude. Go to the second floor – the ladder is in the same corridor as Alkibiades’ room – and knock on the door that leads from the bedroom.
You can choose any options in the dialogue with Perikles. The leader of Athens is more concerned with Spartans rather than with the mysterious cult. Phoibe will interrupt the conversation and tell the man about the discontent of her boss.
There’s nothing more to be done on the symposium so descend to the first floor. If you wish, talk to the guests and then come to Phoibe. Tell her about your future plans and then leave this ancient Greek party. At the exit, you’ll be met by sunlight and several thousand experience points.
