Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Full Walkthrough: Another Day, Another Drachma

The Odyssey’s protagonist is in debt to a dangerous outlaw and now must take his money from a long-term friend Markos

The scene is set on the island called Kephallonia. The main character – a mercenary – owes money to a dangerous criminal nicknamed Cyclops. He must figure out how to take his money from Markos, a long-time friend.

So it Begins

The first full-fledged storyline mission in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey starts with a bird’s flight – an eagle named Icarus, who belongs to the protagonist, soars above the island. Two collectors – Cyclops’ henchmen – distract the main character from deep thoughts against the backdrop of the azure sea.

Alexios/Kassandra won’t have the time to descend closer to robbers when he gets punched in the face – there’s no way to avoid a fight. During this confrontation, the game will teach you to switch between targets and fend off enemy attacks: you must press the appropriate button when the enemy’s weapon lights up with a white flash.

Once you have dealt with the enemies, Alexios/Kassandra will be visited by a girl named Phoibe, another protagonist’s friend. You can choose any options in dialogue with her – the decisions made during this conversation will not affect the course of subsequent events. Phoibe will state that Markos has bought a vineyard and now wants to see the hero.

Before you go to Markos, Alexios/Kassandra must determine the fate of Cyclops’ minions. The criminals can be killed or spared. In the first case, you won’t see this duo anymore. In the second case, they will arrange an ambush for the hero.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Full Walkthrough: Another Day, Another Drachma-6

Having dealt with the bandits, climb up to the top floor of your house (up the stairs or along the wall) and take the hero’s equipment from the chest – a tunic and a belt. Put on both armor pieces, descend and run towards a huge statue of Zeus in the distance – Markos’ vineyard is located to the south of the statue.

At the first fork, turn left and look into the ruined house on the left side of the road. Make it a rule to inspect all available pots, bags, boxes and chests – they contain crafting items and local currency (drachmas).

Archer’s arrows are smeared with poison, so they cause double damage (one-time damage and gradual damage) when they hit you

If you let Cyclops’ thugs go, you’ll be ambushed once you approach a small river (after the destroyed house) – four melee fighters and one archer. Use the columns on the sides of the road to hide from the arrows flying in your direction, or deal with the archer first before proceeding to melee fighters.

Swordsmen typically attack as a crowd, so, during the inevitable retreat, try to line them up to avoid fighting with all of them at once. Don’t forget to block attacks and do not fix the camera on a single opponent. This function is not useful when you fight against multiple enemies.

At the end of the battle, search the bodies of fallen enemies and move further in the direction of the statue. On the way to Markos’ vineyard, the game will offer to call Icarus. In Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, the eagle performs a role of a drone scout. Clamp the aiming button and scan the area for important objects.

Use the bird to locate the owner of the site (see screenshot above) and hurry to the quest marker that has appeared on the screen. There’s a side task for the hero in the area of Markos’ vineyard – to find an ostrakon. For its collection, the protagonist will get several hundred experience points and a notice of the completion of the location examination.

To find ostrakon with Icarus’ help, you’ll need to climb a couple of ‘’towers’’ – reconnaissance improves perception skills of your eagle, so at this stage, you can find the clay tablet by pointing at various places that you see. Hint – the goal is ‘’hiding’’ on the second floor of the barn.

Once you are ready, go to Markos and interrogate him about the drachmas he owes to Alexios/Kassandra. You’ll learn that the quirky ‘’winemaker’’ cannot repay the debt as he shared his savings with the merchant from Sami called Duris. This merchant is stubborn and gives money back only on holidays – or if you scare him.

As for the decisions available in the dialogue with Markos, they will not affect anything except the hero’s tone and the attitude towards what’s happening. When it comes to questioning, don’t rush to choose the ‘’golden option’’ as it will lead to the end of the conversation. Instead, find out how to best deal with the debtor and where to find him.

The road to Duris is (relatively) lengthy, so Alexios/Kassandra decides to take a horse from Markos. Having arrived at the stables, inspect the horses and choose the one whose color you like more – despite the statements of Markos, all three animals are identical in characteristics.

Following the choice of the horse, a peasant woman will rush into the conversation and tell that Phoibe – the small girl and the friend of Alexios/Kassandra – has been kidnapped by Cyclops’ thugs. This is the end of the storyline quest, and you will get 750 experience points.

Get on the horse – for this, you need to press the appropriate button or to lean your head on the stallion – and head towards the Ktymena Beach. If you wish, you can release the reins (press the necessary button) and send the horse towards the selected point on the map or a quest marker.

First, you need to save the girl, and only then beat the money out of Duris. Upon arrival, Alexios/Kassandra decides to sneak close to the bandits. Head towards the marker until your move is interrupted by a cutscene, from which you’ll understand why Phoibe was kidnapped – the criminals want money.

After this, you’ll be introduced to local stealth mechanics. Crouch to hide in the tall grass and wait until one of the enemies comes close to the hero. The game will propose to make a surprise attack – this is a critical hit that kills the enemy if your assassin damage is high enough.

The assassin damage is the level of damage dealt by Alexios/Kassandra to unsuspecting enemies. This level grows with the development of the character, his abilities and weapons. If this parameter is not sufficient enough for an instant kill, you should perhaps look at another way to neutralize the enemy.

However, at this stage, you won’t have to worry about the assassin damage – none of the opponents in the area will be able to survive your sudden attack. Having dealt with the first thug, call the second one with a whistle and repeat the procedure. Deal with the third kidnapper and kill the fourth one by sneaking from behind.

When all enemies on Ktymena are dead, go to the hut but, before you untie Phoibe, open the luminous chest to the left of the girl to complete the task associated with this location – pick up the treasure. Once Phoibe is released, childhood memories will come to Alexios/Kassandra.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Full Walkthrough: Another Day, Another Drachma-23

The flashback will present the closest relatives of the main character – father Nikolaos, mother Myrrine and the baby Alexios/Kassandra (depending on the chosen protagonist) – which have not been around the main character for a long time. You will know why from subsequent flashbacks – this is not the last one.

Having returned from memories, the protagonist learns that a reward has been announced for his head. When this happens, mercenaries begin to hunt the hero down – a kind of a vindictive police. A hostile soldier will try to get Alexios/Kassandra as long as there is a monetary benefit for him.

Unfortunately, it’s impossible to pay off Cyclops, the employer of your potential killer, so you will have to finish off Talos (that’s the name of the mercenary) yourself. However, it’s too early to think about it – the protagonist’s level is too low – so just avoid the character that is marked by a red helmet on the map.

Next, go to Sami. Despite the Exploration Mode, your goal will be highlighted on the map and on the radar. The Duris shop is located in the center of the town opposite the blacksmith shop which is located near the docks. As a reminder, the goal of Alexios/Kassandra is to collect money from the merchant.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Full Walkthrough: Another Day, Another Drachma-28

There are several ways to do this, including a way to get the money back without even entering a conversation. You’ll just need to destroy the vases standing next to the merchant or to harm him (for example, by hitting him with a sword a couple of times). If you prefer a more civilized approach, you can talk to the man before attacking his shop.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Full Walkthrough: Another Day, Another Drachma-29

Of course, Duris won’t have the money to pay the debt. Regardless of the side you choose – Markos or Duris – the number of hero’s drachmas won’t increase. However, the debtor will tell you where Markos obtained money for the vineyard – he borrowed it from Cyclops!

Anyway, Alexios/Kassandra needs money, and therefore you have a choice:

  • Leave with nothing – in this case, Duris will appreciate the protagonist’s indulgence and will provide him with a unique second-level sword;
  • Insist – in this case, you’ll have to destroy a couple of vases or hit Duris himself. This action will bring you 100 drachmas.
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Full Walkthrough: Another Day, Another Drachma-32

Having obtained the money or having let Duris go, head to the temple of Zeus on the outskirts of Sami. Near the quest marker, you’ll find Markos who is haunted by one of Cyclops’ thugs. When he leaves, the winemaker will offer a vague plan to get money that is reserved for the head of the criminals.

At this stage, Alexios/Kassandra only needs to express his attitude – negative, mixed or positive (see screenshot above) – to Markos’ idea. From the flashback that follows the scene, you will learn how the protagonist obtained a fragment of Leonidas’ spear, came to Kephallonia and met Markos.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Full Walkthrough: Another Day, Another Drachma-35

It turns out that winemaker, who at first glance looks greedy, once housed a very young protagonist and raised him as his protector. The hero won’t have the time to complain about the state of his outfit when Drucilla will interrupt the conversation and demand help from Markos – he promised her to solve the problem with forest bandits.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Full Walkthrough: Another Day, Another Drachma-36

The smart friend will immediately put the responsibility on Alexios/Kassandra. Regardless of your answer, no one will force you to deal with the thugs – this operation is worth a separate side quest. Thus, just follow Drucilla to the base of the temple.

Ultimately, Alexios/Kassandra will get a brand-new bow. Check its performance by hitting the nearest training targets. At this point, the Debt Collector quest will come to an end, and you will get 825 experience points which will be sufficient enough to take the character to the next level.
