Square Enix Releases Next-Gen Tech Demo Back Stage

It’s a tease of what their next big title will be like

Nvidia and Luminous Productions of Square Enix division presented Back Stage — a tech demo that showcases the studio’s newest technologies combined with real-time ray tracing.

You can check out the video below:

An updated version of Luminous Engine was used for this demo — the same technology previously powered Final Fantasy XV

Nvidia claims that Back Stage is running in real-time on a single GeForce RTX 2080 Ti, meaning that it’s suitable for high-end consumer PCs. Perhaps the most impressive part of the demo is reflections — a character’s face is shown in full detail in the mirror without any cheating like half-baked assets.

It’s known that Luminous Productions is currently working on a new IP for next-gen consoles — Xbox Scarlett and a new PlayStation, which will also officially utilize ray tracing. It means that Back Stage is our first tease of what Square Enix’s next big title will look like.
