Cyberpunk 2077 Will Get Two Tabletop Games

Both Cyberpunk Red Jumpstart Kit and Cyberpunk 2077 — Afterlife: The Card Game will come out next year

CMON tabletop games company announced a collaboration with CD Projekt RED for two new games called Cyberpunk 2077 — Afterlife: The Card Game and Cyberpunk Red. They will share the same universe with Cyberpunk 2077 and come out in 2020.

Cyberpunk Red

Cyberpunk Red is a tabletop role-playing game (TTRPG) that will be a prequel to the upcoming CD Projekt RED’s game. It’s actually the newest version of the original TTRPG Cyberpunk 2020 that Cyberpunk 2077 is based on. Cyberpunk universe creator Mike Pondsmith revealed that he will unify the timelines of the original tabletop game and the upcoming video game. That means the Cyberpunk Redwill be the first official peek at the franchise’s updated lore.

A starter kit called Cyberpunk Red Jumpstart Kit will include a lore book, a set of custom dice, a full adventure scenario specially made for new players, a set of in-universe news clippings, six pre-generated character templates, and four physical maps.

Players will be able to buy the starter kit at the next Gen Con, the largest tabletop gaming convention, on August 1, 2020, for $29.99. That same day, a digital version will also be available at DriveThruRPG.com. Physical copies will go on sale at a later date through the R. Talsorian online store.

The full version of the TTRPG will be available at later date.

Cyberpunk 2077 – Afterlife: The Card Game

Another new announcement from CMON is a card game based on the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 itself titled Cyberpunk 2077 – Afterlife: The Card Game. The game “thrusts players into the dark alleyways of Night City, where ruthless gangs clash with corporations in an endless war for money, power, and control.”

Afterlife is being made with the help from CD Projekt RED developers. Rafał Jaki, CD Projekt Red’s Business Development Director, commented on the collaboration:

We have a big board game community at the studio, and we couldn’t be happier to partner up with CMON. We love their games and are very excited to show the world our shared vision for a great card game in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe.

Players take the role of Fixers, various people who recruit cyberpunks, arm them, and deploy them on missions. Because of the game’s drafting system, players must carefully consider their funds and the cards’ various opportunity costs. Successfully completing a mission awards the player with Street Cred. Surviving missions promote living characters to Veterans, allowing them to then mentor greener cyberpunks.

As for Cyberpunk 2077 itself, the game will come out on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on April 16, 2020.

Recently, the Cyberpunk universe creator Mike Pondsmith revealed that he will appear in the upcoming video game.
