Black Mesa Developers Launch Open Beta of Xen and Gonarch Chapters

The rest of the maps will be available soon, and you can already listen to a full soundtrack

Following the technical test of new levels, the devs of Half-Life remake Black Mesa have launched the open beta of chapters Xen and Gonarch's Lair.

It was also revealed that the remaining levels — Interloper, Nihilanth, and Endgame — will be available for public test in the coming weeks.

You have to own a copy of Black Mesa to participate in the beta. If you don’t have the game already, you’ll have to buy it for $19.99 on Steam or wait until the next sale (the game’s price was discounted to $7.99 last time).

To activate beta, right-click on the game in your library and select Properties from the drop-down menu, then choose the beta tab. There you can sign up for the public beta. Black Mesa will download the update with beta content. After it’s done, you can select New Game and choose chapter 15 to start playing new levels. Develops advise against using old saves for beta

Previously, Xen and Gonarch's Lair were available in technical beta, where they had only 3 maps. Now, players will get access to all 9 maps in these chapters.

The Crowbar Collective plans to start a beta test for the remaining chapters Interloper, Nihilanth, and Endgame in the following weeks — they’ll double the map count of the game to 18 total maps.

The developers also released Black Mesa’s full soundtrack:

For now, the full version of Black Mesa is scheduled to release before the end of this summer. The game originally hit Steam Early Access on May 5, 2015.
