Disney Removes Aladdin and The Lion King Games from GOG

Both titles are no longer available for purchase

Two 16-bit classic platformers Disney’s Aladdin and Disney’s The Lion King are no longer purchasable on Steam and completely delisted from GOG via publisher’s request.

Disney Removes Aladdin and The Lion King Games from GOG-1
Aladdin (1993) and The Lion King (1994)

Both games were removed from GOG shortly after this message was posted by the service:

“We’d like to inform you that Disney The Lion King and Disney Aladdin are being delisted from our catalog on July 9th, 2PM UTC, due to the publisher’s request. Everyone who owned the games prior to delisting will still be able to access them through their GOG Library.”

The main theory about Disney’s reasons for this move is that the company plans to launch its own digital video games store soon. However, if that’s the case, it’s strange that Disney’s other titles are still available for purchase — for example, Disney’s The Jungle Book is not purchasable on Steam but still up on GOG for $9.99.

Then again, it’s possible that these two titles are only the first ones to be removed. After all, they are probably the most demanded Disney games right now because of this year’s Aladdin and The Lion King movie remakes.

Disney hasn’t commented on this matter yet.
