Shenmue 3 Kickstarter Backers Will Not Receive Pre-Order Bonuses and Season Pass
YS Net clarified the game’s many editions
ResetEra user Chairmanchuck asked the developers of Shenmue 3 about the bonuses that Kickstarter backers will get after the game’s release. Turns out that people who supported YS Net’s new project won’t get every piece of content.
We apologize for the long delay in responding. Your feedback is appreciated and we will look into having your noted points in future updates.
Standard and deluxe versions released through retail sales are not affiliated with the crowdfunding campaign, so will not be included with backer pledges, however, they will be available for sale separately. Kickstarter Backers will receive the Kickstarter version, Slacker Backers will receive the Slacker Backer version. Both have unique content respective to their versions not available in the retail versions.
A season pass is not included.
Trial version release date info has yet to be confirmed and will be announced in the updates when details are available. You will be receiving your trial trial version, but we must ask for your patience for a little longer.
There will be more information following in the days ahead concerning updates.
The Shenmue III Team
What surprised users more is the fact that Kickstarter backers won’t get Season Pass. The devs never promised to give it to backers, though, as Season Pass was announced long after the Kickstarter campaign’s success. Still, it’s something that backers of the games from Kickstarter usually receive a thank you gift for making the development possible.
This news continues the backlash surrounding YS Net’s most recent decisions regarding the game. Previously, they announced that Shenmue 3 will be a timed Epic Games Store exclusive, and everyone who ordered a Steam key will have to wait 6 months. After that, it was revealed that PC version’s physical discs will contain only an EGS installer instead of game files.
Shenmue 3 will release on PC and PlayStation 4 on November 19.
