Nintendo Direct E3 2019 Highlights

The Witcher 3, the sequel to Breath of the Wild, new Resident Evil ports, return of Contra and new Mario game

Here’s what was shown

  • The complete edition of The Witcher 3 will be released on Nintendo Switch this autumn.

  • Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, dedicated to the upcoming 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
  • Nothing about new Pokemon, Bayonetta, and Metroid.

Yesterday, on June 11, was the day of the last presentation from a major publisher on E3. In the familiar video format, Nintendo told the audience about the upcoming games, DLCs, and ports for Nintendo Switch – not without surprises and interesting announcements.

The presentation started with the announcement of an add-on forSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate with the characters from Dragon Quest 11. DLC will be released this summer, while the improved version of Dragon Quest 11 will be released on September 27 on Nintendo Switch.

Also, Banjo and Kazooie will be added to Super Smash Bros. with the release expected in autumn.

After this, the publisher showed the game process of Luigi’s Mansion 3 which was first announced in September 2018. The date of the release is not specified, but the platformer in the setting of a huge mansion with ghosts and his brother Mario (Luigi will also have a double ‘’Guigi’’, including for the cooperative game) in the main role will be released before the end of 2019.

Netflix announced the release of The Dark Crystal Age of Resistance Tactics, a turn-based game based on the show The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance which is scheduled to appear at the streaming service in August 2019. In turn, the show is a prequel to Jim Henson’s puppet film The Dark Crystal which was made back in 1982.

The long-awaited The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, a remake of the same-name game, which was released in 1993 for Game Boy, received a release date – September 20, 2019. The events of the game will unfold at a mysterious island Koholint where Link found himself after the storm and from where he is trying to return home. Atmospheric dungeons, unique puzzles, and characters not from The Legend of Zelda series are included in this release.

Nintendo also announced the port of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Complete Edition. This was not a major surprise – the rumors of The Witcher 3 on Nintendo Switch have been circulating for a long time. The exact date of the release was not specified, but the game should become available before the end of 2019, and it already has its own page in the Nintendo store.

The western release of Trials of Mana authored by Square Enix, which will also be an HD remaster, will appear on Nintendo Switch in the first half of 2020. By the way, the game will also be released on Steam. Also, Switch already offers Collection of Mana, a bundle of the first three games of the Mana series.

Nintendo also showed a storyline trailer of the tactical RPG Fire Emblem: Three Houses. The release of this game is scheduled for July 26, 2019, exclusively for Nintendo Switch.

Good news for Resident Evil fans: the fifth and the sixth parts of the franchise will be ported to Switch.

Daemon X Machina, which was first shown at last E3, got a new trailer and a release date. On Nintendo Switch, the battle mech simulator will appear on September 13, 2019.

Gamers should expect a continuation of No More Heroes with the number 3 in the subtitle. The next game in the series will be released in 2020.

The classic Konami franchise, Contra, is back: Nintendo showed a Contra Rogue Corps trailer. The game will support cooperative mode and multiplayer and will appear on Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and PC on September 24, 2019.

Also, Nintendo announced the release of the Contra Anniversary Collection. It includes classic games of the series and will become available on the above-mentioned platforms in the near future. For example, you can purchase the bundle on Steam for $19.99.

Panzer Dragoon will be released on Switch in winter of 2019 (опять зима этого года, наверное, 2020?). It will be a remake of the game that was released back in 1995. The game was completely reworked and received improved controls and modern graphics. The Polish studio Forever Entertainment works on this project.

The studio which developed Bayonetta and Metal Gear Rising works on the action game Astral Chain about a special police squad which fights against monsters. It will be released on August 30, 2019.

After this, Nintendo showed a debut trailer of the game Empire of Sin in a ‘’mafia’’ setting. John Romero’s studio works on this game. The release is expected in 2020 on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

Nintendo presented a new trailer of the upcoming slasher Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order. Four gamers can play on one console by connecting additional Joy-Con controllers. The release is expected on July 19, 2019, exclusively for Nintendo Switch.

The crossover of The Legend of Zelda and a rhythm game Crypt of the Necrodancer, which was announced back in March, now has a release date. The game will appear on June 13, of course, only on Nintendo Switch.

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, dedicated to Tokyo Olympics in 2020, will be released in November exclusively for Switch. Judging by the trailer, we can expect a kind of a sports-themed Super Mario Party.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons for Switch, which was awaited by many, was postponed to March 20, 2020. The game was previously expected to be released this year, but its development took more time. Also, a 24-minute gameplay video from E3 is available.

Nintendo showed a separate video with games that will be released soon, including games from other publishers. They include Doom Eternal, Alien: Isolation, Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch, and other titles.

Finally, Nintendo showed an intriguing trailer with Link and Zelda from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. They have awakened some evil under the castle of Hyrule – Nintendo is working on the sequel of the game.

Nintendo did not say anything about the third part of Bayonetta and Metroid. Some observers expected to see a presentation of new versions of Nintendo Switch as rumors were circulating a few months before E3, but this did not happen.
