Cult Cel-Shaded Shooter XIII Remake Announced

The game returns November 13 on all major platforms

Classic shooter XIII is being remade from the ground up by PlayMagic, French publisher Microids announced out of the blue:

The original XIII was based on the Belgian graphic novel series of the same name. The story follows XIII — a soldier with amnesia accused of assassinating the President of United States.

XIII quickly gained a following after its release in 2003. Players liked the uncommon cel-shaded art style and engaging story mixed up alongside solid shooter mechanics. The game was developed by Ubisoft Paris for PS2, Xbox, GameCube and PC.

Francois Coulon, Microids’ Head of Production, explained their reasons for reviving the game:

"This remake’s idea came naturally as we felt this unique kind of story driven FPS experience was missing in today’s gaming landscape. Our goal is to bring XIII’s compelling story to a new generation of players with the best possible graphics and animation. The result will be nothing short of spectacular as we promise to celebrate the amazing work done on the original game."

Developers promise to bring the game up to today’s standarts, remaking the graphics, sound, animations and gameplay, while preserving the original feel and tone of XIII.

XIII will be available on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC and Mac November 13 in both physical and digital editions.
