Russian Fans Outraged Because of Misspelled Russia on Metro Exodus Pre-Order Poster

The bonus poster for pre-ordering a physical copy of Metro Exodus spells ''Russia'' with the low-case ''r'', which makes Russian community outrageous and leads to talks about Russophobia

Recently, 4A Games announced that those who pre-order a physical copy of Metro Exodus will receive a panoramic poster ‘’The Creatures of Metro Exodus" that shows mutants that can be found on the territory of post-apocalyptic Russia. However, as Russian gamers spotted, the poster contains a mistake — ‘’Russia’’ is written with the low-case ‘’r’’, which made Russian community furious. Some even perceived it as Russophobia.

The Russian title of the poster is ‘’The Wildlife of Post-apocalyptic russia’’

The finding caused criticism among Russian gamers:

  • ‘’If I were the publisher, I’d investigate who made this poster and why, and how to sell it in Russia.’’
  • ‘’Is it a new Ukranian spelling rule to write ‘russia’?’’

This is not the first case when Russian fans find controrversy in the Ukranian studio’s games. Back in 2013, gamers encountered a phrase ‘’ROISSYA VPERDE’’ on the ‘’Nightfall’’ level in Metro 2033: Last Light:

The phrase itself is a changed ‘’Russia go forward’’ («Россия, вперед»), which is intended to be a patriotic slogan. Instead, it became a Runet meme which implies dissatisfaction with the country. Found in the Ukranian game, the phrase was perceived both as a funny Easter egg and as mocking of Russia

Buka, Russian publisher of Metro Exodus, promised to fix the typo. However, this concerns only the posters that Russian gamers will receive as global copies were already printed.

Metro Exodus is set to release on February 15 on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
