All facts and rumors about the upcoming ceremony: confirmed game announcements and new trailers, rumors, studios to skip the ceremony, performers and presenters, and more


The Game Awards is set to this Thursday, December 6 in Los Angeles. There will be more than 10 new games revealed as stated by TGA producer Geoff Keighley, so here are all confirmed and rumored announcements as well as who will be attending and performing at the ceremony. The list will be updated when more news appears.

New Far Cry Game Announcement [Updated]

Ubisoft has released a teaser for a new title in the Far Cry series to be announced at The Game Awards. As stated by Kotaku’s Jason Schreier it is going to be a ‘post-apocalyptic Far Cry spinoff’, which is likely to be connected with the nuclear explosion Joseph Seed was talking about at the end of Far Cry 5. Earlier, the company has already released spin-offs of their games, namely Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon and Far Cry Primal.

A possible cover of the new Far Cry was posted on Reddit stating the game is going to be titled Far Cry New Dawn, rated M by ESRB. The image itself depicts a post-apocalyptic area similar to the one showed in the teaser and two girls who might be the playable characters.

Magic: The Gathering Exclusive Announcement [Confirmed]

The official TGA Twitter account posted that there will be an excusive announcement regarding the card game.

Obsidian’s New RPG [Confirmed]

The new game was teased through a pop-up on Obsidian’s website, although there already were some hints that the studio is working on a new project. It is developed by Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky — developers of the original Fallout — and will be published by Take-Two Interactive’s Private Division. Geoff Keighley has confirmed that the studio will be present at TGA. The style of the posters on Obsidian’s site might prove the idea that the project is based on The Outer Worlds novel by E. J. Gilmour. Earlier this year Obsidian registered a trademark by the same name.

New Rage 2 Trailer [Confirmed]

The game was announced earlier this year with several trailers shown. Now, developers have posted a short video for TGA 2018 suggesting Rage 2 for a non-existent nomination ‘’Best Post-Post-Apocalyptic Western Game’’.

Update on Devil May Cry 5 [Confirmed]

During X018 Microsoft conference it was revealed that developers will share some news at TGA 2018.

Fortnite Creative Mode [Updated]

Teased earlier ‘Fortnite World Premiere’ is goint to be the announcement of Creative mode to be presented by Fortnite Creative Director Donald Mustard. Geoff Keighley confirms the announcement:

The mode was leaked by streamer Lachlan in the video he posted. In the Creative mode players will be able to choose from four maps with different biomes and create objects in the Minecraft-style. There will be a memory cap though, after reaching which the game may crash.

Dauntless Update Reveal [Confirmed]

After its announcement at TGA 2016 the free roleplay action game developed by Phoenix Labs has been in Open beta up today. The official tweet suggests there’s going to be the game’s ‘biggest update’ this Thursday.

New Anthem Trailer [Confirmed]

Developers posted a teaser for the new Anthem trailer which will be shown at TGA. The game itself is developed by the team behind the Mass Effect trilogy.

Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey Gameplay [Confirmed]

Developed by Patrice Désilets — game designer of the first two titles of the Assassin’s Creed series and Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time — Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey is a third-person survival adventure game that follows humanity’s early period of evolution in 10,000,000 BC Africa. It was first teased at E3 2015 and earlier this year developers showed new screenshots demonstrating the game world. The most recent update states that the studio will present gameplay at The Game Awards.

Alien: Blackout Announcement [Rumor]

We’ve already summarized all facts and rumors regarding the new Alien game developed by Cold Iron Studios. In short, it was first revealed that the studio is working on a new Alien game in January this year. Later, in November, Geoff Keighley posted an image saying ‘Worlds Will Change’ which quite resembles the logo of Weyland-Yutani Corporation logo and its slogan ‘Building Better Worlds’. Not speaking of Hideo Kojima’s photo during his visit to 20th Century Office. Lastly, IP holder 20th Century Fox registered a trademark for Alien: Blackout.

Dragon Age 4 Announcement [Rumor]

General Manager of Bioware Casey Hudson hinted at the possible Dragon Age sequel in the company’s blog this year saying, ‘you know we’re also working on some secret Dragon Age stuff’. Back in January Dragon Age Executive Producer Mark Durrah also teased that the company is working on something:

Borderlands 3 Announcement [Rumor]

The third entry in the series was hinted at several times already as Gearbox Software CEO Randy Pitchford posted several tweets about number 3. The last update about the series was related to Borderlands VR, which is coming December 14.

Mortal Kombat XI Announcement [Rumor]

Information about the new entry in the MK series was teased on 4chan. An anonymous user who claims to be a MK 11 tester revealed that the game has been in development for four years and uses Unreal Engine 4. Besides, the user posted details regarding characters, story and co-op game modes. Another rumor comes from motion capture actor Daniel Pesina who said to be working on a ‘brand new Mortal Kombat game’.

New Trailers and Release Dates for Ghost of Tsushima, Death Stranding and Dreams [Rumor]

The rumor comes from a Brazilian website Combo Infinito through PushSquare that claims to have received an email from Sony stating:

  • ‘Update: Release windows for Death Stranding and Ghost of Tsushima will be revealed during this year's edition of The Game Awards next month. Official release date of Dreams will also be announced.’

As regard for Death Stranding, several trailers have already been shown demonstrating main characters and game world. Besides that, there were a few recent leaks, for instance, the one from Walmart. The retailer revealed the release date of the game — June 30, 2019, which was later confirmed by the company’s Twitter account. While there hasn’t been any other confirmation, The Game Awards will show what’s to come.

The Avengers Project [Rumor]

Directors of the fourth film Russo Brothers will be attending the ceremony, which might mean that the superhero game developed by Crystal Dynamics, Eidos Montreal and Square Enix will be revealed alongside the first Avengers 4 trailer.

Metroid Prime 4 Trailer [Rumor]

The game was confirmed to be in development when a teaser was shown at E3 2017. It was later confirmed by series producer Kensuke Tanabe that the new entry is developed by a ‘talented new development team’. The last update regarding the developed title was hinted at by Geoff Keighley who posted a photo with Reggie Fils-Aime wearing a Metroid T-shirt. As nothing was revealed at E3 2018, the upcoming Game Awards ceremony would be a perfect time for a new trailer.

Metroid Trilogy for Nintendo Switch Announcement [Rumor]

Swedish store Inet has listed Metroid Trilogy collection for Nintendo Switch. The collection was erlier released on Wii and WiiU and Switch seems like a probable platform for the updated release.

Rocksteady’s Superman Game [Disproved]

There’s been a rumor regarding the Batman Arkham trilogy developers working on a Superman title. Game Director Sefton Hill, however, confirmed that they are not working on such a game and there will be no announcement of new titles at the upcoming ceremony.

Kotaku journalist Jason Schreier has also confirmed that, adding that the studio might be working on a Game as Service superheroes game.

Cyberpunk 2077 Not Coming to TGA

CD Projekt Red have stated that they are not going to present anything at TGA saying they will provide an update when ready.

The last official demonstration was in August earlier this year when CDPR showed a 48-minutes gameplay video. Besides that, there also were leaks regarding the size of the game world.

No Update from WB Montreal Games

Developers of Batman: Arkham Origins are not going to show anything at The Game Awards as Creative Director Patrick Redding has stated.

The Last of Us Part II Not Coming to TGA

Naughty Dog has confirmed that there will be no update on TLOU 2 at the ceremony.

Crash Team Racing [Rumor]

Several bloggers and game journalists have reported that they received gifts from Activision which hint at the upcoming announcement at TGA. Looking at the merchandise, one can guess that Activision teases Crash Team Racing. Besides, the same happened right before Activision announced the remaster of Spyro.

Official Guests [Updated]

Lorne Balfe (Mission: Impossible — Fallout, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2) is conducting The Game Awards orchestra this year. Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo will present Devil May Cry 5 live performance featuring Devil Trigger. Among the performers there will be other famous composers at the ceremony:

  • Harry Gregson Williams (Metal Gear Solid 2).
  • Lena Raine (Celeste).
  • Sarah Schachner (Anthem, Assassin's Creed).
