Blizzard Veteran John Heinecke Joins Square Enix As CMO
The longtime businessman has been in the gaming industry for 20 years.
Former Blizzard Entertainment Vice President of Global Publishing for Overwatch John Heinecke has left the company, but he's staying within the gaming industry. Square Enix announced today that they have hired Heinecke as the company's Chief Marketing Officer. It's an impressive hiring for the company, as Heinecke's career as a marketer has been quite decorated. His job will have him overseeing marketing for all Square Enix titles, and he'll report to Square Enix America and Europe CEO Phil Rogers.
During his time at Blizzard Entertainment, Heinecke launched three major titles in Overwatch, Diablo 3, and Hearthstone. He also oversaw the Overwatch League, and helped on four World of Warcraft expansions. He previously worked for Activision. ‘’I look forward to building cutting edge marketing campaigns that help to grow our global audience and to build passionate communities around our amazing games,’’ said Heinecke in a prepared statement.
Square Enix CEO Phil Rogers was equally as excited about the hiring. ‘’We are tremendously excited to welcome John Heinecke to the Square Enix family,’’ said Rogers. ‘’John’s experience and knowledge will be instrumental in leading our marketing efforts.’’
